Life is Too Interesting Not to Be Curious
I’ve spent my life asking questions.
Why do some people instantly put us at ease while others don’t? Why do certain conversations change our lives? Why do we feel so deeply connected to some people and not to others? Where does help come from? What makes a life well lived?
The older I get, the more fascinated I become by human beings.
This page is where I share the ideas, questions, stories, and observations that continue to inspire my work.
My Canadian Story
In 1975, I arrived in Canada with just $400 in my pocket and an enormous sense of curiosity about people and life.
I could never have imagined where that journey would take me. I’ve been a photographer, an author, a speaker, a teacher, a husband, a father of five, and a lifelong student of human nature.
Along the way, I’ve learned that our lives are shaped less by what we own and more by the people we meet, the conversations we have, and the opportunities we’re willing to say yes to.
Looking back, I don’t think success came from having a plan. It came from paying attention, remaining curious, and being willing to connect with people from all walks of life.
Canada has been very good to me. I remain deeply grateful for the opportunities and friendships that have made this extraordinary journey possible.
A Few Things I’ve Learned
-
People remember how you make them feel.
-
The quality of your life is largely determined by the quality of your relationships.
-
Help often arrives from unexpected places.
-
Curiosity is one of life’s greatest gifts.
-
Small moments can change everything.
-
Human beings are wonderfully imperfect.
-
The best conversations are often the simplest.
Human Connection
We live in a world that has never been more connected technologically and, in many ways, never been more disconnected personally.
Human connection isn’t complicated. It begins when we pay attention.
Sometimes, the most important thing we can offer another person is our presence, our curiosity, or our willingness to listen.
Relationships
Relationships are at the heart of everything that matters.
Whether it’s friendship, family, romance, or business, our relationships shape the quality of our lives.
Living Well
After more than eight decades on this remarkable planet, I’ve come to believe that living well has less to do with achievement and more to do with paying attention.
It’s about remaining curious.
It’s about staying open to possibility.
It’s about being present enough to recognize the extraordinary hidden within ordinary moments
Pray Sideways
One of the ideas that has captured my imagination in recent years is something I call Pray Sideways.
It’s not about religion. It’s about paying attention to the unexpected ways help arrives in our lives.
Sometimes help comes through a conversation. A stranger. A coincidence. A friend who phones at just the right moment.
The answers we receive are rarely the answers we seek.
A Final Thought
We are all works in progress.
Life isn’t a problem to be solved. It’s an adventure to be explored.
The more curious we become about ourselves and others, the richer our lives become.
Better conversations. Better relationships. Better lives.
